Pertinger

A tradition of quality projected towards tomorrow

In 1937, when Franz Pertinger decided to make his first economical stove he could already count on his vast experience as a blacksmith creating wrought iron objects. Solid and well structured stoves started emerging from the tiny workshop of Rio Pusteria (Bolzano), situated in the small square where the Sacro Cuore di Gesù stands, and many are still working today.

Very gradually his fame extended beyond the Bolzano province. Already in the mid Sixties, Pertinger was also well known in Cortina d'Ampezzo and many other places in the Dolomites. You could quite often see him leave in his small three-wheeler to deliver a stove far away from his home town wherehe would then see to doing an expert job of the brick work needed to install the stove and make certain the customer was happy. Despite the crisis of stoves and wood stoves in the Sixties due to the coming of gas and kerosene as domestic fuels, Pertinger continued expanding his business: in particular, the collaboration with an interior designer who was looking for someone that could make tailored products, contributed to an important development of the company. In 1973 Othmar Pertinger, today's owner, took over from his father just when stainless steel stoves were being produced instead of the traditional enamel-finish ones. The factory, which had now become inadequate, moved in 1978 to a bigger building, still in the centre of the town, and which saw another expansion in 1990. Regardless of the periods of boom and economic recession, Othmar Pertinger always kept his father's motto in mind: custom-made wood stoves must be of excellent quality and must meet the customer's needs. And it is this choice of excellence of the materials and workmanship that has made Pertinger a leading brand.
